Project description
Through workshops and working interviews, "Cooperation Between City and Surroundings" will be defined within the theme of the combined interests of the JORDES+ Region (the area between Vienna, Bratislava and Györ). The in-depth project will be put forward before the National Steering Committee.
The space between Vienna and Bratislava is unique in Europe. It lies between two European capital cities that are connected to one another through a national park and is just 50km in length. Just as with all other cities comparable in size to Vienna or Bratislava, it is to be expected that residential and commercial development will continue in the city and surrounding areas. Additionally, effective regional investment projects will take place along the major lines of infrastructure. The open question that remains in this context is, "What role will country borders play in the future of an open Europe?"
Phase 1 - KOBRA (2003-2004): Evaluation of existing studies and consultation with the Mayors and other key stakeholders about currently planned projects with the goal of creating a spatially dynamic 'City and Surroundings' prognosis for the Vienna-Bratislava area.
Phase 2 - KOBRA+ (2004-2005): Based on the findings pf Phase 1, draft spatial/functional develpment perspectives should be prioritized. Additionally, regional priorities for development projects should be identified.
Phase 3 - Investors Paper "The Green Center" (2004): The investors paper "The Green Center", will outline how the region of Vienna-Bratislava-Györ can position itself as an economic area in the future. 'Green Factors' are often undervalued in classic economic analysis. Therefore, the regional 'core compentencies' were tested for their economic viability.
Phase 4 - KOBRA 2010 (2006-2007): The proposed master plan “landscape, recreation and tourism” aims to stimulate the tourism potential of the region (like the Marchfeld castles, Carnuntum, Danube National Park, wine routes, Devín, etc.). A green corridor along the border should enhance the landscape and prevent urban sprawl from encroaching on the region between the city of Bratislava and its Austrian hinterland.
